Hamilton Artists Inc. (the Inc.) is committed to the presentation of contemporary art and related cultural practices. The Inc. facilitates critical dialogue surrounding issues in contemporary art through exhibitions, publications, performances, and public events. The Inc. actively engages in community arts programming and educational initiatives that represent the breadth and depth of cultural life in our city and beyond.
Hamilton Artists Inc. is committed to dismantling structural barriers that prevent participation in our programs and creating true inclusion for all artists and community members in our region. As such, preference will be given to a BIPOC-identified person with strong links to diverse communities.
In collaboration with the Executive and Programming Directors and the Board of Directors, the Communications & Outreach Coordinator will use their experience to foster ongoing community partnerships, develop communications, and enhance membership, volunteer and visitor relations with a focus on equitable and accessible models.
The Communications and Outreach Coordinator position for the Hamilton Artists Inc. is 24 hours/week at $17/hour, beginning July 11, 2018. Workdays are flexible and negotiable. Evening and weekend hours are required for committee meetings and events. Vacation pay is calculated at 4% of wages. The successful candidate will receive training and professional development opportunities within a six-month contract, with the possibility of renewal.

Join our Board
The Hamilton Artists Inc. is seeking engaged, committed and enthusiastic volunteers to submit applications to the Board of Directors. The Board consists of members who possess a variety of skills, knowledge, perspectives and talents. The Board wishes to reflect the diverse community of Hamilton and be a welcoming, inclusive environment and encourages applications from individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Being a member of the board is rewarding and challenging; it requires commitment, collaboration, leadership, decision-making, and integrity. Board meetings are held on a monthly basis, and members are expected to volunteer additional time sitting on committees and attending Gallery events.
Ideal candidates are practicing artists or have an interest in the arts, have experience in fundraising, fiscal management, event management, marketing and communications and/or previous board experience, who possess a strong interest in contemporary arts practices. Professional training in the arts is not required. Candidates must also be community-minded and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector or with other Artist-Run Centres is an asset.

Volunteering with the Inc
Hamilton Artists Inc. is always appreciative of individuals interested in volunteering their time. There are many ways to get involved, including special events, exhibition assistance, gallery assistance, as well as planning and working committees. Volunteering at the Inc. is a great way to gain hands on experience in a gallery setting, support your cultural community and meet local artists. Interested in joining in? Gallery volunteers greet and orient visitors on exhibitions and programs, monitor the gallery and assist Inc. staff. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own artwork to work on or books to read during gallery shifts.
We are in need of gallery volunteers during the week 12 – 5 Wednesday and 12 – 6 on Friday as well as special events and opening receptions.
Art Crawl from 7 – 10pm (11pm in the summer) on the second Friday of every month .
We’re looking to build our gallery prep crew to assist with exhibition installation, strike and art handling. Previous installation experience is an asset, but training can also be provided.
Public Programs Assistants
The Inc. has expanded its auxiliary programs to include a summer screening series, as well as workshops and artist talks at the offsite Cotton Factory studio. We’re seeking volunteers to help facilitate these evening and weekend activities.
Special Events Committee
This committee plans and facilitates special events for the membership and community at large, and plays a key role in fundraising for the Inc. Special Events is currently seeking new committee members to assist with planning and implementing events for the Spring/ Summer season, including Craft Mart and Inc. Squared.
Communications and Membership Outreach Committee
The Communications committee is responsible for our membership and external communications, including print and web design. The committee hopes to build its capacity in order to support more professional development programs and social events for members.
