Hamilton Artists Inc. unveils new gallery centerpiece for James Street North
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Sept 20th, 2011, Hamilton, ON) Hamilton Artists Inc., the local artist-run centre and cultural community hub is pleased to announce the public opening of its new home at 155 James Street North. A gallery building developed for visual arts exhibitions, public installations, special events and performances,“The Inc” is ready to expand on it’s 36 year history of contemporary art in the community.

In conjunction with the inaugural festivities is the opening of the exhibition 4 from 6, 4 Artists from Six Nations, curated by Shelly Niro and featuring the work of Brenda Mitten, Tracey Anthony, Jay Carrier, and Elliott Graham Doxtater-Wynn. The Inc.’s Members’ Gallery also presents Igniting the Archive, an Activated History of Hamilton Artists Inc.

The Inc.’s new building is located in the heart of one of the most exciting contemporary art neighbourhoods in Canada. Providing two gallery spaces for community and professional arts development, the centre acts as a landmark for gallery-hopping and events such as the Art Crawl. Complete with a courtyard and a prominent facade on which to display public-facing installation work, we are excited to better assist our members and the community in highlighting visual arts production and activities in Hamilton.
The Inc. is committed to the presentation, dissemination and advocacy of Canadian contemporary visual arts practices which speaks to and enhances our regional cultural activity. We welcome a new Administrative Director, and an expanded Board of Directors who are inspired by our dedicated and enthusiastic community of staff, volunteers and members without whom these accomplishments would not have been possible.
