Call for Applications to Board of Directors, Hamilton Artists Inc.

The Board of Directors at Hamilton Artists Inc. is seeking to fill the position of Board Treasurer. In addition to regular board duties, the Treasurer is responsible for preparing annual budgets in consultation with the Chair and Administrative Director. Other duties include approving the financial component of all grant applications; supervise bookkeeping; oversee the management of all financial matters (revenue, expenditures, audit, fundraising, etc.) and authorize all transactions; report on the financial status at all Board Meetings and Executive Committee meetings; present a Treasurers report at the Annual General Meeting.

Dedicated and enthusiastic individuals are also invited to submit applications to fill three additional positions on the board of directors. Being a member of the board is challenging; it requires commitment, leadership, decision-making, and integrity. Board meetings are held on a monthly basis, and members are expected to volunteer additional time sitting on committees and attending Gallery events. Directors may not receive financial compensation or apply for solo exhibitions while serving on the board.

Ideal candidates will be trained professionals with fundraising and/or previous board experience, who possess a strong interest in contemporary arts practices. Professional training in the arts is not required. Candidates must also be community-minded and possess good communication and interpersonal skills. Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector or with other Artist-Run Centres is an asset. The Inc. facilitates a national dialogue surrounding issues in contemporary art through exhibitions, publications, performances, education and outreach projects. The Inc. actively engages in community arts programming and educational initiatives that represent the cultural life in our city and beyond.

The Inc. is dedicated to upholding professional standards for artists and pays CARFAC fees for exhibitions and activities presented in and through our main exhibition space. As a member-driven organization, we also provide an accessible and inclusive forum to address the social and professional needs of artists through workshops, lectures and our dedicated Members’ Gallery and Resource Centre.
