FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
HAMILTON, ON (October 5, 2015) The new ArcelorMittal Dofasco Courtyard will officially open at Hamilton Artist Inc. on October 16, 2015. Members and the public are welcome to the celebration.
As part of the Inc.’s strategic vision, the Courtyard has been transformed into a beautiful new outdoor extension of the gallery. It will be used as a seasonal presentation space for visual and performance art, as well as a fully functioning event and green space.
Both Phase I and II of the transformation of the Courtyard were generously supported by ArcelorMittal Dofasco through the company’s Corporate Community Investment Fund. The renovation was a big undertaking that involved grading, raising catch basins, new wiring for exterior lighting and power, and laying a new foundation. The Courtyard also features bench seating, planters and vegetation.
Surrounded by century-old brick walls, the Courtyard is currently covered with a colourful array of graffiti style art. Once all final refurbishments are completed, the Courtyard will be entirely repainted.
“The board, staff and members of the Inc., an artist run gallery, are delighted to be able to share this beautiful outdoor exhibition and meeting space with the arts community of Hamilton,” said Daniel Hutchinson, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors.
The launch doubles as a closing party for the successful exhibition, Into the Wild. The event will include refreshments and an artist talk with 2013 Sobey Art Award winner, Duane Linklater.
