Mexico ii

Beverly Healey & Christopher Healey

June 13 to July 6, 2013

Reception Thursday June 13, 7:00 to 9:30pm

Exhibition Statement

Two generations of Canadian artists, mother and son, present two different visions of the same place. As tourists from outside of the culture, this is not really Mexico but rather alternate versions of Mexico framed within particular contemporary and modernist biases. Hence Mexico ii.

Beverly Healey: Beverly studied Fine Arts at Mount Allison University under Alex Colville and Lawren Harris Jr. and also studied Commercial art at Vesper George School of Art in Boston. Beverly ‘s favourite medium has always been oils due to their flexibility and texture. "The human face, for me, is the most interesting subject matter. The expression, lines and the eyes telling the story of lives lived."

Christopher Healey: Christopher studied Fine Arts at Concordia University in Montreal and is beginning a Masters of New Media & Communications at Hamilton’s McMaster University in September. Healey has always been interested in digital media and approaches this photo collage work through his painting and drawing sensibilities.
