Dear Friend of the Inc.,

As a chill begins to set into the autumn air, our thoughts turn to family and community. Each year at this time we write to you to announce our exciting programming for the upcoming year, and to ask that you will count us among those touched by the warmth and generosity of your giving.

As we close out 2016, we wish to celebrate a successful year of contemporary art exhibitions and local artist projects, but we wish as well to look ahead, to face some of the challenges of our society with action and hope. We believe that art can be a vital element in stimulating critical dialogue, and artist-run centres can be key in fostering community, bringing people together to engage with art and ideas, to mentor or be mentored, and to connect with each other.

We are excited to announce a new focus on strengthening the diversity and inclusivity within our community by engaging our valued membership, and placing new emphasis on responsive programming and outreach. Amongst other initiatives such as an inclusivity committee, the Inc. hopes to create a pilot year of community-funded special projects programming that would allow for expanded arts practices, particularly from underrepresented communities, to materialize over a short period of time. This will allow for responsive projects that stimulate critical dialogue over issues that arise in real time as they affect our community. It is only with your support that we can put such programming into place.

Along with such positive initiatives, the Inc. is committed to excelling as a leader in contemporary visual and media art as well as serving a broader public through larger conversations and actions that better the Hamilton community and beyond. With this in mind, we are asking you to make an investment in programming and community outreach at Hamilton Artists Inc. by sponsoring one or more of our 2017 exhibitions or projects.

Your support will allow us to build on the history of the arts in Hamilton. You will be prominently acknowledged among our supporters and in all print and web materials associated with the exhibitions or projects you support. You will also receive a charitable tax receipt for donations over $25.00.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this request. Best wishes for a joyful, peaceful and creative 2017!

Sincerely yours,

taien daniel

Help the Inc. continue to make History:

As one of the first artist-run centres in Canada, founded in 1975, the Inc. was initiated as an arena for artists to exhibit artwork and meet with their peers to promote art production in the City of Hamilton.

For over forty years, the Inc. has defined a regional dialogue within a national and international context by presenting challenging contemporary artwork, stimulating critical dialogue and fostering local artist initiatives.

Your support will allow us to build on the history of the arts in Hamilton.

Help the Inc. realize its Mandate and Objectives:

Hamilton Artists Inc. is committed to the presentation of contemporary art and related practices. The Inc. facilitates critical dialogue surrounding issues in contemporary art through exhibitions, publication, performances and public events. The Inc. actively engages in community arts programming and educational initiatives that represent the breadth and depth of cultural life in our city and beyond.

The Inc. is dedicated to upholding professional standards for artists and pays CARFAC fees for exhibitions and activities presented in and through our main exhibition space.  As a member-driven organization, we also provide an accessible and inclusive forum to address the social and professional needs of artists through workshops, lectures and our dedicated Members’ Gallery and Resource Centre.

With your support we can meet our Objectives:

  • To remain a prime destination for Contemporary Art in Southern Ontario.
  • To establish a bilingual publication programme.
  • To be responsive to evolving Contemporary Art practices through our interdisciplinary presentation spaces — Cannon Gallery, James Gallery, Cannon & James Wall Projects, and Inc. Courtyard.
  • To support and empower artistic experimentation, research, and expanded art practices.
  • To develop and support platforms for critical discourse.
  • To foster collaborative partnerships with organizations and institutions, whose aims reflect and complement or challenge our vision.
  • To provide opportunities for learning and engagement for visitors and viewing audience.
  • To provide and champion engaging learning and professional opportunities to local and regional community audiences.
