Two Summer Opportunities exist for students.

Hamilton Artists Inc is hiring a Programming Assistant and a Gallery Assistant.  Both positions work a combination of week days, weekends, and evenings. The Inc is a fast paced environment working with Contemporary Artists and the larger Hamilton community and is therefore looking for someone who is politically sensitive, friendly, and innovative. Job duties include: installation and gallery prep, research and program development, coordinating exhibits, membership development, administration and working directly with our audience.

Programming Assistant

 

Wage: $ 10.25

Anticipated Start Date: June 12, 2013

Anticipated End Date: August 30, 2013

Hours per week: 30 hrs

Job Description

The Programming Assistant will work closely with the Administrative and Programming Directors to provide preparatory, installation, administrative, research, and program development support to the gallery exhibition areas. The Programming Assistant will provide support for the planning and implementation of several exhibitions and special events including, our interior and exterior exhibition spaces, developing community outreach projects to occur in the summer and fall, and prepare research for Guest Curator and Artist. This position will also be supporting the day to day tasks including, membership administration, online updates, greeting the public and communicating our initiatives.

Qualifications

– Advanced English and Basic French.

– An excellent knowledge of contemporary art and knowledge of Canadian artist run centres.

– The ideal candidate is currently undertaking a Fine Art, Art History, or Curatorial degree at the Undergraduate, Graduate level ,or College level.

– Computer skills including Microsoft suite, basic Photoshop, typing, and researching skills.

– Ability to multitask and work within a team and autonomously within a fast paced environment.
