Amidst a world in crisis, join us on Friday July 25th from 6 PM - 10 PM for a unique double feature film celebration! In the light of significant environmental divestment wins from McMaster, the Inc will be screening two local documentaries: "peace, love (unicorns) & communism" and "Trainwreck".
“peace, love (unicorns) and communism” written, produced & directed by adeola egbeyemi, focuses on the winning wave of environmental divestment at McMaster University from 2020-2023 which led to a 75% reduction in the university’s investments in fossil fuel companies. Driven by the fact that being a student is both a brief and deeply foundational moment in an organizer's life, the film opens up opportunities for intensity, vulnerability and celebration.
“Trainwreck” directed by Taras Hemon, delves into Hamilton’s multi-year, $3.4Billion LRT line, weaving together the first-hand accounts of tenants, small business owners, cultural organizations, community activists, and researchers affected by transit-induced gentrification. This film shines a spotlight on Metrolinx and exposes the destructive effects of ‘new urbanist’ policies such as transit-oriented development, intensification, and ‘regeneration’ of working-class neighbourhoods.
